IDENTIFICATION OF COMMERCIALLY IMPORTANT DISCOVERIES
CGDN’s management team works closely with researchers and their institutions to identify commercially important discoveries and then protect their commercial value through patents. To do this, funds are required to demonstrate proof of principle, substantiate patent claims and prepare and file the patent. This type of funding is often difficult for scientists to obtain, as traditional granting agencies do not support proof of principle work or patent costs.

To address this funding gap, CGDN has a Strategic Fund which provides grants to develop proof of principle and pay patent costs.

A prerequisite for a strategic grant is the identification of a potential partner who will provide further R&D dollars and assist in taking the research to market .

Below are biotechnology companies that are based either in whole or in part on research supported by the CGDN Strategic Fund. CGDN’s equity in these companies is currently valued at over $6 million and is held in the CGDN endowment fund.
