1. A Hands-On Approach to Learning about Gene Research
"Gene Researcher for a Week" provides students with a venue for learning about the scientific method and for performing scientific experiments (DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, cell culture, ELISA assays). You will be exposed to the application of leading-edge technology in health research.
2. Work in one of Canada's top gene research laboratories.
Canada's top genetic scientists actively participate in the "Gene Researcher for a Week" program. Our scientists are respected and well published, and many have won prestigious awards. You'll have an opportunity to learn about the benefits of and processes involved in a genetic study from your host scientist.
3. Develop a Network of High Potential Peers
Student gene researchers are bright, talented, and highly motivated individuals. They are Canada's future scientists. They are Canada's leaders of tomorrow. By participating in the program, you will have an opportunity to meet people in your host institution. You'll also become a lifetime member of our alumni network, which consists of all of our current and past student gene researchers.
4. Learn about New and Exciting Career Paths in Science and Genetics
By participating in the "Gene Researcher for a Week" program, you'll be exposed to new ideas and you will develop a new perspective of genetic research. This perspective, along with networking, will open new doors to future opportunities (e.g. summer research jobs or scholarships).
