Computer System Administrator
The Montreal Genome Centre is a leading edge research group applying genomic techniques to study human diseases. The Centre utilizes a wide variety of technology platforms, including high throughput sequencing and genotyping, as well as DNA chips. Over thirty scientists work in an extremely dynamic environment based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The Centre's computer facilities are currently expanding - motivated people are required for the following positions:
NT System Administrator and Support
Candidate will have experience setting up NT server and client applications, and be able to perform basic hardware and software maintenance tasks. He/she will be involved in the setup and maintenance of a backup system for group a of 20 workstations, as well as provide support for the users. Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite is a must - additional knowledge of VBA would be an asset - as well as familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server and the Apache web server. Candidate will be required to provide support in NT 4.0, Win2000 and Mac environments; familiarity with Mac OS8 is definitely an asset.
Unix System Support and Administration
Candidate should have strong experience in Solaris UNIX - knowledge of Digital UNIX would be an asset. Candidate will be required to perform varied system tasks including implementing and maintaining backup systems, working in conjunction with MUHC I.S. to implement a complete security architecture including firewall and secure shell applications, as well as basic system tasks such as creating user groups and log file maintenance.
Candidate will provide support and some instruction to user community with regards to file structure, backup habits and data recovery. Experience with unix scripting, Apache web server configuration, and databases such as Oracle and PostGreSQL an asset.
