CGDN'S STRATEGIC FUND PROPOSAL

The Network has a fund available to enhance the commercial value and potential of Network research projects. Investigators are invited to submit proposals for funding. The Strategic Fund is available to "top-up" research funds directed to the creation of intellectual property and know-how on commercially relevant results. Funding is targeted to specific objectives which promote the exploitation of research.

Proposals will be reviewed by the Strategic Fund Review Panel and awarded accordingly. Typically, awards range from $25-50,000 to reach specific objectives in 6-12 months. The guidelines for this application follow.

Basic eligibility criteria:

  1. The project must demonstrate significant commercial potential, i.e., for a new venture that involves CGDN investigators as participants, or for collaboration with a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company.
  2. Funding is targeted to specific objectives which promote the exploitation of research.
  3. The funds must have the potential to enhance significantly the ‘value’ of the project, in terms of being able to attract or ‘lever’ new funding or investments.
  4. Proposals should be suitable for confidential scientific and business review.
  5. Deadline for submission of proposals is September 30, 1998.
  6. Not all proposals are accepted but proposals may be resubmitted. All applicants will receive feedback.

Review of proposals:

A panel consisting of Network investigators, representatives from industry, and the Network’s Commercial Director, will recommend priorities for funding based upon the proposals received from investigators. Typical awards will range from $25-50,000 to reach specific objectives in 6-12 months.

All material submitted will remain strictly confidential.

Expectation of returns:

In return for this strategic investment, the Network will receive a share of the commercial revenue, commensurate with the current support and relevant historical Network contributions. Revenues will be used as per Board Directives to foster Network research and commercial developments.
